Ultraefficient homogeneous catalyst for the CO2-to-CO electrochemical conversion.

A very efficient electrogenerated Fe(0) porphyrin catalyst was obtained by substituting in tetraphenylporphyrin two of the opposite phenyl rings by ortho-, ortho'-phenol groups while the other two are perfluorinated. It proves to be an excellent catalyst of the CO2-to-CO conversion as to selectivity (the CO faradaic yield is nearly quantitative), overpotential, and turnover frequency. Benchmark...

Exploring the intermediates of photochemical CO2 reduction: reaction of Re(dmb)(CO)3 COOH with CO2.

We have investigated the reaction of Re(dmb)(CO)(3)COOH with CO(2) using density functional theory, and propose a mechanism for the production of CO. This mechanism supports the role of Re(dmb)(CO)(3)COOH as a key intermediate in the formation of CO. Our new experimental work supports the proposed scheme.

Identifying trends and descriptors for selective CO2 conversion to CO over transition metal carbides.

Catalytic reduction of CO2 requires active, selective and low-cost catalysts. Results of this study show that transition metal carbides are a class of promising catalysts and their activity is correlated with oxygen binding energy and reducibility as shown by DFT calculations and in situ measurements.
